This breakthrough, minimally invasive procedure performed by Dr. Neil Floch and Dr. Seth Gross, is designed to correct GERD, rather than just manage it. The combination of Dr. Floch and Dr. Gross performing this procedure together is most unique. They are the only team consisting of a reflux surgeon and an endoscopist. Dr. Floch, a reflux surgeon, is the Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery at Norwalk Hospital, and Dr. Gross, a gastroenterologist is the Director of Advanced Endoscopy at Norwalk Hospital. The TIF procedure involves the insertion of a tiny device called ESOPHYX, which is used to reconstruct the antireflux barrier at the junction of the esophagus.
The doctors perform this laparoscopic procedure transorally through the open mouth, rather than through a skin incision. Because there is no incision, there is little pain, no scarring, and a short recovery period. Symptom relief is generally immediate.
