Determining Your Insurance Benefits

When preparing for your surgery it is important to determine if your specific health insurance plan covers Weight Loss Surgery. Beware that every plan is different and the benefits are constantly changing. You are entitled to know what your benefits are. However, it is often not an easy question to get answered. Start by calling the number on your card. The questions are simple "Do I have the benefit required for weight loss surgery? If so, can I get a copy of the guidelines?” If speaking to customer service isn't productive, then call your human resource department. Everyone is entitled to know, and should know, what is and is not covered by their health Insurance. This topic is also discussed at our free seminar. We will guide you through what you will need to do to determine your financial responsibilities, if any.

Self-Pay Options

If it is determined that you do not have the benefit, please don't be discouraged. This is all too common. Our office can provide you with a package, designed for the self-pay patient that will fit into any budget. These packages are funded through different lenders to offer competitive rates for people with, and without, a good credit history. Other alternatives to financing your surgery have been borrowing from your 401K or simply taking advantage of today's low rate credit cards. In the year that you finance your weight loss surgery you may be eligible to receive a substantial tax break (IRS publication 502). LAP-BAND® surgery is broken down as follows: Hospital $9,000. Surgeon $7,600. and Anesthesia $1,200 for a total of $17,800. *An example of this would be $18,000 borrowed at 10% for 10 years is $238.00 per month Lap Bypass surgery is broken down as follows: Hospital $17,000.00 Surgeon $10,000 and Anesthesia $1,600 for a total of $28,600 **An example of this would be $29,000 borrowed at10% for 10 years is $384.00 per month ** These are just examples. You would need to sit with a lender that is not affiliated with Fairfield County Bariatrics to qualify for your own loan, based on your personal credit history and income. When budgeting these numbers please remember as the weight drops off, your budget will have a surplus from savings on prescription drugs, food purchases, etc.
